Full Fibre for 10% of UK Premises

After more than a decade of working towards switching as many UK premises as possible to full-fibre connections, Think Broadband has confirmed that we have finally reached the 10per cent mark. Full-fibre links offer the fastest speeds available, theoretically capable of handling gigabits of data every second.
The significant milestone has been achieved from work done by CityFibre, Openreach, Community Fibre and Hyperoptic to lay cables and offer services. The number is expected to rise after Vodafone announces partnership with Openreach to offer full-fibre to more than 500,000 homes and business in Liverpool, Bristol, and Birmingham.
Vodafone said that the service would offer speeds of up to 900Mbps.
By contrast, more than 96per cent of the UK has access to superfast broadband, which offers 24Mbps. Meanwhile, 59per cent of UK premises can get ultrafast connections, which can hit 100Mbps.
Andrew Ferguson, from Think Broadband, said that delivering the service to additional UK premises would not take too long now that the needed infrastructures are already in place in many areas. However, he warns: “That’s all dependent on how the fast the builds go. A bad winter may slow things down.”
