The least painful, according to the survey, are getting paper cuts, hitting a funny one, and undergoing a blood test.
The Arthritis Research UK survey’s main objective is to establish how the public perceives and rates pain.
92per cent of those who participated the survey says that arthritis is as painful as childbirth. When asked to best describe their pain, almost half (46%) said it felt ‘like hot knives every time I move’ and for over a third (38%) the pain of arthritis caused ‘constant fatigue and loss of energy’.
Dr Liam O’Toole, chief executive officer of Arthritis Research UK, said, 'Interestingly, the events that people have rated as most painful are often short lived. Childbirth or a kick in the groin are agony for a relatively short amount of time, yet people with arthritis deal with the same level of pain on a daily basis.'
