Vouchers to install free public WiFi now up for grabs.
13:54 03 June 2018
The WiFi4EU initiative, which hopes to equip “every European village and city with free WiFi internet access” by 2020 is giving away £105million vouchers that cities, towns and other UK districts can take advantage of.
Eligible municipality can secure up to £13,000 that they can use to help cover the cost of installing or upgrading WiFi equipment in their chosen “centres of public life.”
To date, some 17,000 municipalities across Europe have already registered. Beneficiaries will be selected on a first-come, first-serve basis. Selected municipalities must commit to paying the broadband ISP connectivity and maintenance of the equipment to offer “free and high-quality” WiFi connectivity for at least three years.
In order to qualify, applicants must not have existing free private or public WiFi with a similar quality in the same public space.
