Coleraine, the regional hub for trade and tourism in the Causeway Coast and Glens, now offers free public WiFi to both visitors and residents. The WiFi project, which is jointly funded by the Department for Communities and Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, is meant to capitalise on the large number of town visitors.
Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council Councillor Joan Baird OBE said that the service has proved to be popular among visitors and residents. He said: “The introduction of On Street public Wi-Fi is an asset for Coleraine which will enhance the town’s reputation as a great place to work, live and do business. Since its introduction, the free service has been used around 4000 times every month, contributing to positive visitor experiences and helping to create a vibrant and prosperous town centre. I would like to thank Coleraine Town Team and all local traders for their support throughout the programme.”
Meanwhile, Jeanette Parry, from provider Atlas Communications said: “Having completed other internet service schemes within Northern Ireland, the project within Coleraine has seen one of the largest uptakes and we are delighted to have been able to contribute to the Council’s digital strategies”.
