Free Wifi in Birmingham

Free WiFi makes Birmingham one of UK’s most connected cities.

A recent survey carried out by mobile phone insurance provider Insurance2Go reveals that Birmingham is the second most connected city in the United Kingdom. It came after London, which has a total of 9,269 hotspots that are mainly located at cafes and public spaces like museums, shopping centres and train stations. Birmingham, on the other hand, has 620 hotspots some of which are provided through shoe-box sized access points installed across the city centre. The initiative between Birmingham City Council and Virgin Media Business offers reliable and fast connection not just to residents but also to visitors.

 

The other cities that made it to the list and their corresponding numbers of hotspots are Leeds (597), Manchester (534), Glasgow (475), Edinburgh (471), Liverpool (362), Sheffield (359), Bristol (327) and Cardiff (291).

 

Free WiFi is a useful service to commuters, business travellers, freelancers and mobile workers. To date, UK has around 14,000 free WiFi hotspots.

 

The analysis also reveals that some cities are not as developed in their free WiFi offering. These include Aberdeen (126), Stirling (71) and Dundee (115). All cities are located in Scotland.
