France to float UN Syria resolution

France will push proposals made by Russia on Syrian chemical weapons at U.N. Security council.

Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius said that France wants Syria’s chemical weapons to be placed under international control so they can be destroyed. He added that should Syria breached any of the resolution’s conditions, which is based around five points, it would threaten extremely serious consequences.

Mr Fabius, who was speaking at a news conference in Paris, said that complete inspection of all the chemical weapons will be requested. He added that the resolution will be tabled under Chapter 7 of the UN charter.

Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, has spoken about Moscow’s plan to put Syrian’s chemical weapons stockpiles under international control. He added that Moscow is "preparing a concrete proposal which will be presented to all interested sides, including the US... a workable, specific, concrete plan.”

Meanwhile, US President Barack Obama welcomes the proposal and even called it a breakthrough. However, he remains sceptical on Syria’s compliance.
