A study conducted by the British Geological Survey is likely to confirm that southern England is ripe for drilling. It is expected to confirm huge amount of reserves in Kent, Sussex, Surrey, and Hampshire. It has already suggested that gas in the area can cover the needed supply for the country for 40 years. The report came after reports that communities that maybe affected by fracking were offered an average pay-out of £800,000.
According to the Times newspaper, Prime Minister David Cameron, a supporter of fracking, will offer additional £100,000 and a 1% share of profits to win over the people who oppose the project.
Fracking is a technique that involves high pressure liquid being pumped deep underground to split shale rock and release gas and oil supplies.
Business Secretary Vince Cable gave a statement to address concerns against fracking. He said: "People are terrified this is going to pollute and compromise the environment - it doesn't have to do that.
"People think it's going to be some great economic bonanza - I doubt that."
"There is a danger that people get so obsessed by the long-term possibilities of fracking ... It's a long way to go.
"People think this is some miracle round the corner - it certainly isn't that. Providing there are proper safeguards for the environment, and there have to be proper safeguards, there is no reason why it should create a backlash."
