Four killed in New York train crash

The train crash that took place in the Bronx area New York has killed four people and injured 60, including 11 that are in critical condition.

The Metro-North train, which was said to be travelling much faster than normal, crashed in the Bronx area in New York killing four people and injured 60 including 11 who are now in critical condition.

None of the carriages went into the adjacent Hudson or Harlem rivers although based on the pictures obtained on the scene, this nearly happened. One passenger, Frank Tatulli told WABC-TV that the train appeared to be going “a lot faster” than normal as it approached the bend coming in the station.

The spokeswoman of Metropolitan Transportation Authority said that the “black box” recorder will be used to tell how fast the train was travelling when it approached the bend, which is a slow speed area.

Meanwhile, New York state Governor Andrew Cuomo had confirmed that the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has started an investigation.

"It's obviously a very tragic situation," he said. "The first order of business is to care for the people who were on the train... we'll wait to see what the NTSB says before speculating as to any causes."
