The almost perfect edition of the first comic book featuring Superman, described as possibly the “best copy in existence” has been sold for £1.9m at auction.
The 1938 edition of Action Comics snapped the highest price ever recorded for something of its kind. The seller, Darren Adams, who has a collection in Washington state, said that the masterpiece is the “Holy Grail” of comic books.
The cover features Superman hoisting a car over his head.
Of the 100 copies released, 50 are believed to still exist but none of them is believed to be in great condition as the one sold at auction.
The almost perfect comic book was purchased on eBay by marketplace firm ComiConnect, whose director Stephen Fishler has not ruled out putting it back up for sale.
