A new research has been conducted to examine the relationship between trans fat (commonly found in fast food) and emotional regulation; it found that fast food makes you feel depressed. The study, which was published in the Journal of Health Psychology, assessed the data of 5,000 individuals containing information about their trans fat intake and their emotional responses.
The scientists from San Diego noted that those who have higher of trans fat experienced “difficulties with emotional awareness” as well as a lower level of emotional “clarity.”
The study has strengthened the findings of another study that was conducted in 2013 at the University of California. The study found that “greater trans fatty acid were significantly associated with greater aggression.”
Dr Alex Richardson, the researcher and head of charity Food and Behaviour Research, said: “We know the UK diet that is wrecking our bodies is always wrecking our brains.”
“We have quite enough evidence, but the scientific community insist on 'randomised controlled double-blind placebo trials' – hard to do, particularly for long periods. Instead, we should look at the totality of evidence."
