Colin Farrell says he breathes in while shooting his movies so he looks slimmer on screen.

The 'Phone Booth' star, famed for his wild lifestyle, has confessed he holds in his stomach rather than go to the gym or cut down on partying.

He said: "I get no kicks from going to the gym. It doesn't do it for me. Never has. Some people enjoy working out. But that's never done it for me.

"In the past, I'd breathe in heavily between takes. I sucked it in and did a take. That way it doesn't hurt the beer consumption at all."

Meanwhile, the heartthrob star revealed that he is planning to turn his hand to directing.

The Irish-born actor, who has a one-year-old son with model Kim Bordenave, says he will eventually get behind the camera.

He told Britain's Loaded magazine: "Someday I'd like to try directing, but right now I'm still trying to figure out this acting thing."
