Following his meeting with US president-elect Donald Trump, UKIP leader Nigel Farage said that there is a “real opportunity” for improved UK trade with the US. He added that Trump was a supporter of UK willing to be “very close partners.”
Calling on the government to work closely together with Mr Trump, Mr Farage said: "There's a real opportunity here."
"Not only President-elect Trump, but his whole team is Anglophile.
"They like our country, they recognise what we've done together in the past, and they're coming into this with an incredibly positive view. We need to seize the day."
Meanwhile, the incoming US president has already spoken to Prime Minister Theresa May by phone.
Mrs May plans to visit Mr Trump in the first three months of next year following his inauguration. She said that she hoped the two countries would be able to work on areas of mutual interest to enhance the special relationship between the two countries. However, some say that the government currently do not have links with the Trump camp and thus will have to “start from scratch.”
