After being criticised for not being consistent on what acceptable and not acceptable, Facebok has published a 2,500-word document to clarify the rules.
Key clarifications include the following:
•Nudity – explicit images of sexual intercourse and images of genitals are banned. However, photos of women actively engaged in breastfeeding is considered acceptable.
•Hate Speech – direct attacks on people based on their race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or disability are banned. However, the sharing of someone else's hate speech "for the purpose of raising awareness or educating others about that hate speech" is allowed.
•Violence and graphic content - "sadistic pleasure or to celebrate or glorify violence" is banned while images posted to “raise awareness” of human rights abuses will be allowed.
•Self-injury – promotion of self-injury, eating disorders, or suicide is banned.
•Direct threats - Facebook says it evaluates threats based on their credibility - looking at things such as a person's physical location.
