Facebook Hoax

Calm down. Facebook is not about to charge you despite what a seven-year-old hoax has claimed.

For days, several people on Facebook have been sharing a message warning users that the social media site is going to start charging fees. The post urges users to copy the message on to their walls so obtain a blue icon that will exempt them from charges.

 

If you see this on your feed, there is no need to worry as it is a hoax and Facebook help centre decribed it as a “common myth.”

 

Facebook's chief operating officer, Sheryl Sandberg said in a interview for Business Week: "The answer is no, we are not planning on charging a basic fee for our basic services.

 

"Once again, that question stems from people thinking we're growing so quickly, we're running out of money. We're growing really quickly, but we can finance that growth. We're not going to charge for our basic services."

 

Meanwhile, another Facebook privacy hoax has resurfaced. In this case, users are urged to copy and paste a message that says they are not allowing the site to use their pictures. It reads: "I do not give Facebook or any entities associated with Facebook permission to use my pictures, information, messages or posts, both past and future. By this statement, I give notice to Facebook it is strictly forbidden to disclose, copy, distribute, or take any other action against me based on this profile and/or its contents. The content of this profile is private and confidential information. The violation of privacy can be punished by law (UCC 1-308- 1 1 308-103 and the Rome Statute)."
