CCTV Upgrade for Gwynedd

Gwynedd to replace 73 old and obsolete CCTV cameras that produce poor quality images.

Gwynedd council’s cabinet is being urged to approve plans of using high-definition CCTV cameras as the 73 currently in use have become old and obsolete. According to the report, the current CCTV system was “a matter of concern since it is reaching the end of its operation life.”

 

It added that “the quality of images in certain cameras are not always good enough to be effectively used in prosecutions,"

 

The project, which aims to fight crime and anti-social behaviour, is expected to cost £489,000. If approved, the new system will work using WiFi and will eliminate the need for full-time operators. Police will be given remote access to cameras to gather evidence in dealing with crimes, especially serious ones, such as drug-related offences, manslaughter and sexual assault.  The cameras are expected to play a crucial role in solving crimes due to their ability to record better quality footage in a format suitable for the use in courts.
