Radio One DJs face axe
Big-name presenters to be replaced?...
09:49 05 September 2011
BBC Radio One DJs Vernon Kay and Sara Cox are among the stars to be axed from the station, according to reports.
According to The Sunday Mirror, the pair have been warned by acting controller Ben Cooper that they could be replaced by fresher talent.
Edith Bowman and Trevor Nelson are also said to be up for the chop.
A source told the newspaper:
"A few of the DJs have grown up at Radio One and in some cases have settled down and have families.
"But that means they're not as in tune with the younger generation as they used to be."
A spokesperson for the station refused to confirm or deny the reports, instead saying:
"Any story about schedule changes would be pure speculation."
Cox joined Radio One back in 1999, while Kay made his debut in 2004.
Recent reports have suggested that T4's Jameela Jamil was in talks to join the station, after impressing bosses with a series of pilots.
