England met the Republic of Ireland last night (Wednesday, 29thMay) at Wembley Stadium, London, in a friendly football match that resulted in a draw.
Neither team secured victory with the game ending 1-1. The evening marked the first game between the two sides since 1995.
It was 18 years ago that the game at Lansdowne Road saw trouble among the fans.
In Wednesday’s match it was Frank Lampard who secured the equalising goal during the first half, after the Irish bagged the first goal.
It was Republic of Ireland player Shane Long who scored first, in under 14 minutes after kick off, before Roy Hodgson’s team followed with their goal.
And Ashley Cole celebrated in honour of his 100th cap, as well as him being named England captain for last night’s game.
England will play an international match against Brazil at the weekend - on Sunday, 2nd June, 2013 - at Maracana, Rio de Janeiro. Kick off will be at 8pm.
