Juno Oscar nominee Ellen Page has received death threats on social networking site Twitter. The incident has led to police investigating and issuing a search warrant to owners of the site in order to retrieve information regarding said tweets.
The tweets have since been deleted, but they have threatened to murder the actress. One of the tweets said: “I’m going to murder Ellen Page. She’s dead.”
Another tweet provided a clue as to the motive behind the death threats: “Ellen Page, if you continue to date Alexander, I will K-1-L-L you in public in the next year…Be it in a club, at a game, in a restaurant, or when you’re signing autographs.”
The tweets referred to Alexander Skarsgard, 35, who stars in vampire TV series True Blood. The two celebrities met when they filmed the film ‘The East’ together over the winter. They have not yet confirmed their relationship, but were seen watching the LA Kings at the Stanley Cup together.
Their film is due in theaters soon and will also include Patricia Clarkson, Julia Ormond, and Shiloh Fernandez, among others.
The police department in charge of the case also said that a ‘worrying’ phone call was made to the non-profit organisation that put together the LA Film Festival, which was hosting the premiere of the new film.
