Electricity bills could be set to rise by between ten and 15 per cent next year.
The announcement has come from David Cox, managing director of Ilex, who warned that UK energy prices are also likely to remain high for the next three years.
Mr Cox stated that the price increases were not due to suppliers restricting production, but were instead partly due to a 30 per cent rise in the wholesale gas price.
Consumers were warned Mr Cox that: "There isn't really any good news for consumers looking forward."
A recent report by Ofgem, the energy regular, stated that the proportion of gas-generated electricity has grown significantly over the last decade.
A total of 29.7 per cent of all gas consumed is done so in electricity production.
