Entertainer Eddie Izzard has told the Labour Party conference in Brighton that he will run for London Mayor in 2020. The stand-up comedian and Ed Miliband’s apparent top choice has previously given hints that he would like to give up comedy for politics.
Reports say that his announcement prompted cheers from those in attendance.
There will be one mayoral election in 2016 before the comedian plans to enter the world of politics.
Labour MP Tessa Jowell, who is reportedly running for the same position in 2016, said: "Eddie is a man of enormous substance, generosity and conviction.
"His decision to do this is a vote of confidence in Labour."
