Gwent County Borough Council has partnered with AppyWay to launch a parking app that displays real-time availability of parking in Ebbw Vale's General Offices, Parkway and Town Station car parks.
The AppyParking app, which is powered by BT, uses 5G technology to allow users to locate available free or paid-for parking spaces in advance of their journey. This allows drivers to plan ahead and save time and energy in the process. The scheme is funded by the Welsh Government's Tech Valleys Programme and the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.
Founder and CEO of AppyWay, Dan Hubert, said: "We’re thrilled to have launched access to real-time availability of parking in Ebbw Vale in conjunction with Blaenau Gwent County Council."
"This 5G powered initiative provides an exceptional town centre parking experience — one that plays a significant role in helping the local economy and high street recover from an extremely challenging couple of years. We look forward to continuing our collaboration with the project partners."
A spokesperson from Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council added: "I am pleased that this innovative parking app is now available to Blaenau Gwent residents and visitors."
"We hope it will make it easier and more efficient for people to find somewhere to park — with the added benefit of helping reduce pollution with less need for drivers to drive around searching for spaces."
"Likewise, during busy periods, visitors may opt to use public transport instead — further supporting our decarbonisation plans for the area."
