MySupermarket, a website that has been tracking the prices of grocery items in the United Kingdom, has found that the price of fruits and vegetables has dropped by nearly 14per cent, making this month the best time to eat healthily for less money.
It found that the price of cucumber and onions fell by 11per cent while bananas were down by 10per cent and carrots by 8.7per cent.
However, prices of other grocery items increased. These include fish fingers (up by 9per cent), frozen chips (up by 4per cent), baked beans (up by 3.6per cent) and pasta (up by 7per cent).
mySupermarket managing director Kim Ludlow said: “This is great news for shoppers.
“We were delighted to see some items were down more than 10% compared to this time last year, equating to some impressive savings.
“However, as always, we warn shoppers to be vigilant. The increased competition means each retailer will pull out all the stops to get you into their store.
“Prices will change regularly and it’s important to compare your entire basket before you shop to ensure you are getting the absolute best price every time.”
