Phil Mitchell is set to go down on one knee and propose to long-suffering Shirley, it is being reported.

The Eastenders hard man ends up in hospital after suffering a heart attack, when Shirley pays him a visit.

She informs Phil that she won't marry him and he suggests that in that case, they should end their relationship.

Shirley wastes no time in spreading the news around The Square that she rejected Phil's proposal, leading Glenda to pay him a visit in hospital.

Phil then calls it off with Glenda, which sees her storm out of the hospital.

Jane and Tanya talk to Shirley about the proposal, suggesting that she should accept it, prompting her to return to the hospital.

The pair discuss the proposal, with Phil revealing that he was in a desperate situation when he proposed, but that he still stands by his decision.

He then gets down on one knee and proposes properly leading Shirley to finally accept.
