A deal between East End housing estates, Community Fibre and Tower Hamlets Council will bring fast broadband internet access to up to 4,000 homes. The deal, which also involves social landlords, aims to provide 100per cent fast internet connection with up to 3G speeds depending on the neighbourhood.
Community Fibre’s Graeme Oxby said: “The past year has shown how critical it is to stay connected. All Londoners have the right to access fast broadband as much as any other utility service.”
Work to upgrade estate management and increase efficiency and security is also being carried out to include lift monitoring, door entry and CCTV.
Meanwhile, six community centres are set to have free access to super fast and super reliable broadband connection so they will have an easy access to public services online. This follows a pilot test in March involving Mile End's Bede Estate, which was subsequently expanded to the Holland Estate a month later.
The scheme's target is to provide 100% coverage to Eastend Homes within the next six months. Following the installation, residents will be given the option to select their broadband providers.
