Many states have already legalized the use of this product due to its health benefits. However, many employees and athletes are reluctant to use this supplement since they fear that they might fail to pass their regular drug tests which might ruin their careers. Their fears are legitimate because a consumer might or might not pass a drug test depending on the dosage, the type of test and the compounds present in the product. For these reasons, someone can pass a drug test method and fail another one.
CBD oil might contain minimal or no delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol(THC) depending on the manufacturer. But in most brands, it is below 0.3%, which doesn’t have any significant effect on the human body. This compound is what makes people high since it is able to change the perception and mood of the user once it gets into the bloodstream. THC is the main substance that is screened in most drug tests. But Does CBD on a drug test always shows up? The drug test results might indicate a positive or negative depending on the method used. There are several drug testing techniques, but they vary in terms of preciseness and accuracy. Simple methods like saliva testing have low accuracy in that they cannot differentiate most cannabinoids. For this reason, such methods can confuse a CBD molecule to other cannabinoids such as THC and indicate a false-positive. Most workplaces prefer using simple methods because they are cheaper, quicker and non intrusive.
Common drug tests
Blood testing
A blood test is the most accurate and reliable method of identifying substances in the human body. Almost all ingested substances get into the bloodstream and reach various parts of your body. Therefore, the amount of substances in a blood sample is precise and uniform, but it reduces with time because the kidney purifies the blood each second. The downside of this method is it is highly invasive and costly.
Saliva testing
This simple testing method is non intrusive and cheap. However, it is only accurate if the test is done within a few hours after a drug is ingested. When someone takes a drug, some traces of the substance remain in the mouth and it can be detected in saliva samples for several hours. This method has low accuracy since it can’t indicate the precise amount of substances in the human body and it can indicate a false-positive.
Hair testing
Human hair contains some traces of metabolites which are filtered and retained in the hair follicle. This method of testing is less common because it is unable to show if someone is high or not. However, it is able to show someone’s historic drug usage, which is relevant in crime investigations.
Urine testing
Most metabolites are filtered out by the kidney then they are excreted as urine. It is quite easy to get someone’s urine sample and the process in nonintrusive. Urine testing shows the precise quantities of metabolites that are in someone’s bloodstream in real-time. For this reason, this method of testing is common in most workplaces since it is able to show if an individual is intoxicated or not.
Perspiration testing
This method involves the use of a sweat patch which is fixed to the skin for a fortnight. The main disadvantage of this testing method is it is time-consuming and some individuals feel uncomfortable when they have a sweat patch for a long period of time. This method is perfect for testing individuals who are on probation because it can show if there is drug usage over a period of time.
CBD oil is a legalized product in many countries since it doesn’t intoxicate individuals when taken in low doses. This product might contain minimal or no THC, but users might not pass all drug test methods due to the difference in accuracy. Some methods such as blood test are precise and highly accurate while other methods such as saliva testing are quick and cheap but less accurate. If you fail to pass a simple drug test after using CBD oil, it is advisable to request another test using a more accurate drug testing method.
