The full cast of new film Dad’s Army has been revealed and it includes the cream of the British acting crop including Catherine Zeta-Jones, Bill Nighy, Toby Jones, Sir Tom Courtenay, Sir Michael Gambon and Blake Harrison of the Inbetweeners.
Oscar winner Catherine Zeta-Jones will play a journalist sent to report on the exploits of the bungling platoon. Her arrival will cause a stir among Captain Mainwaring’s men and their long-suffering womenfolk.
Meanwhile, Sir Tom Courtenay will play the role of Lance-Corporal Jack Jones, the butcher whose catchphrase “Don’t panic!” has become synonymous with the sitcom. Sir Michael will play the role of Charles Godfrey – the ageing, mild-mannered private whose sister Dolly often provides refreshments for the platoon.
Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy and Marvelous star Toby Jones will play the role of Captain George Mainwaring, the well-meaning but beleaguered bank manager in command of the platoon.
Blake Harrison, 29, who plays the slow-witted Neil Sutherland in the E4 comedy The Inbetweeners, joked that he was simply “playing a stupid boy again”.
Other cast members will include Danny Mays, Sarah Lancashire, Alison Steadman, Mark Gatiss and Annette Crosbie.
