The number of domestic robots in people’s homes continues to increase in number as more and more individuals choose to automate their chores. Although these machines are quite effective at simple tasks, their capabilities are still limited. When compared to household pets, these machines have quite a long way to go to really understand the world they live in. This is where start-ups and even established companies want to catch up. They continuously work towards developing more sophisticated robots as it has been forecasted that home automation would be the biggest industry in the near future largely due to the rapidly ageing populations in major markets including Europe, Korea, Japan, and even China.
To help us grow old, the next generation of domestic robot must have a richer sensory world than existing robots. Experts believe that one way to get us closer to this goal is by following the road taken by smart phones over the last 10 years. The technology used in these devices can make home robots even smarter. Just think about what they can do in the future if they are equipped with touch screen, speakers and microphone, high performance processors, high definition cameras, graphics processing unit, and AI just like our iPhones.
