‘Doctor Who’ star Matt Smith cast in ‘American Psycho’ musical

The 30-year-old Doctor Who star has been cast as a sociopathic serial killer in a musical version of American Psycho.

Matt Smith has been cast as Patrick Bateman, the crazed serial killer in the musical version of American Psycho.

Based on the cult novel and subsequent film starring Oscar winner Christian Bale, American Psycho tells the story of a 26-year-old Manhattan investment banker who loses his sanity and became a brutal murderer in a sea of excess.

Following the announcement of Smith’s casting, the show almost completely sold out. 

The production will run at Almeida Theatre in London from December 3 to January 25, 2014.

Smith said: "The opportunity to work with Rupert Goold, a director of great vision and flair, combined with the brilliant story and music, seemed like such a cool challenge.”

Goold added: "Matt Smith is a wonderful stage performer and the perfect actor not only to lead our exceptional cast but also my first show as artistic director here at the Almeida."

Smith will also be seen on Doctor Who’s Christmas Special. The 30-year-old actor has just finished filming his final scenes for the show. His character will regenerate into the 12th Doctor played by Peter Capaldi.
