How to secure your wireless network connection against cybercriminals.

Wireless connection has become one of the basic business networking requirements these days. It is used to conveniently complete transactions through the digital exchange of sensitive information including but not limited to credit card data and passcodes. Because of this, your wireless connection makes a natural target for cybercriminals who aim to hack your network and bypass your business security data to obtain your customers’ personal and billing information.

 

Fortunately, there are easy ways to ward off hackers. The first step to take is to determine if somebody has already gained access to your router or if it is compromised. To do this, log into your router by typing its IP address into the browser address bar and check the device list or attached devices. You can also use free web-based tools called router checkers.

 

If you find that your router is vulnerable to attacks, secure it by:

 

·       Immediately changing your user ID and password

 

·       Enabling encryption by turning on WPA2-PSK on your router settings and setting encryption types to AES (Advanced Encryption Standard)

 

·       Turn WiFi protected setup off

 

·       Disable Dynamic Host Control Protocol (DHCP) which requires assigning an IP address to individual device that you are using

 

·       Update your firmware periodically
