Digital Detox B&B Opposes 5G Masts

Digital detox B&B owner opposes plans to install phone masts so her customers can enjoy holidays away from the plights of modern technology.

Sarah Redman, the owner of a digital detox B&B near Galloway Forest Park in Scotland, is lobbying South Ayshire Council to keep her land as a black spot so her customers can continue to enjoy their holidays from the plights of modern technology. If successful, it will be the first time an application to remain off grid has been approved in the UK.

 

 

 

Ms Redman said: "Everyone who stays at our Shepherd's Hut actually want to get away from their phones. The fact we don't have Wi-Fi or reliable signal at our Shepherd's Hut B&B is a big selling point.

 

 

 

“We largely see the younger market, such as millennials, coming to stay. I think this is because they all use technology and their phones for too much. They use it for everything from work to socialising. They are a huge part of modern life.”

 

 

 

“This high level of protection doesn't currently exist anywhere in the UK, so what we are proposing is unique.”

 

 

 

Commenting on Ms Redman’s request, South Ayrshire Council said: "We have responded, asking that they consider introducing policy to create or protect a black spot on the land owned by Creeside Farm,”
