Diana Rigg and her daughter Rachael Stirling is set to appear side by side in a Doctor Who adventure to be released in 2013. It will be the first time that the mother-daughter team have worked together onscreen.
The pair will play a mother-daughter role, locally based in Yorkshire, with “a dark secret” and will stay alongside Matt Smith as the Doctor and Jenna-Louise Coleman as the new companion.
The two has begun filming this week at Roath Lock Studios, Cardiff.
Dame Diana Rigg is best known for her role as Emma Peel in The Avengers TV series, a role she has recurred in since the 1960s. Stirling, on the other hand, has played Nan Astley in Tipping the Velvet.
Diana’s comment is quoted: “The first time Rachie and I will be working together is on an episode of Doctor Who specially written for us by Mark Gatiss. How lucky is that?”
Rachael also expressed her enthusiasm about the project, saying she was “looking forward to the madness of Doctor Who enormously.”
She also revealed that both the script and the chance to work with her mother excited her, saying, “Mark Gatiss has written a gift of a script and an onscreen relationship between Ma and I that is truly delicious.”
The two have reportedly declined working together in the past as the offers had “not been tempting” enough.
2013 will be the 50th anniversary of Doctor Who since the show was broadcast for the first time ever in November 1963.
