PM David Cameron’s party are set to publish a draft copy of a bill in connection to the EU referendum. It will outline legislation for an in-out vote on being part of the EU to be done ahead of 2018.
The news comes following Mr. Cameron’s promise concerning the vote, which he previously spoke of. The referendum would only be able to come about if the Tories claimed the next election.
The UK’s Prime Minister said: “Is it in our interests to reform the European Union? Yes, it is.”
Following the Queen’s Speech 2013, which was delivered on Wednesday last week, 8th May, some are calling for action with regards to the EU referendum Bill.
It is understood there are calls from some requesting for a referendum to come as soon as possible rather than later on.
Opposition party Labour, led by Ed Miliband, as well as the Liberal Democrats, are reportedly against a plan concerning the topic. It is believed that Labour’s reason for not wanting to support the promise at the moment is because it is at least a few years away.
US President Barack Obama has commented on the matter. Mr. Obama said: “David’s basic point - that you probably want to see if you can fix what’s broken in a very important relationship before you break it off - makes some sense to me.”
