After winning a Golden Globe award earlier this year for his role as Marine Sergeant Nicholas Body in the hit TV series Homeland, Damian Lewis was recognized for his achievements as an actor and was awarded freedom of the City of London.
Damian, who was joined by actress wife Helen McCrory at the Guildhall, said: "It's the most extraordinary honour to be offered the Freedom of the City of London - the city that I have grown up in, and love, more than any other.
"I'm very, very proud to be associated with it."
The freedom of the City dates back to 1237 and is given to individuals to celebrate significant accomplishments. Awardees are granted privilege to drive sheep over London Bridge. However, this tradition has now lapsed.
Lewis said the lapsed tradition was a shame. He adds: "I've got a flock in my garden in Tufnell Park but I wasn't allowed to bring them down."
