Damaged Cables Leave Basingstoke Residents Without Internet or Phone Lines

Hampshire County Council apologised for damaged network cables that left residents without internet and phonelines for almost a week.

Basingstoke residents have been left without internet and phonelines for almost a week after contractors accidentally damaged underground network cables. 

 

Hampshire County Council has since issued an apology and said that its contractors are actively working with Openreach in repairing the cabling. 

 

The council said on Twitter: “We're sorry that people are still experiencing problems with their internet and phone services in the Basingstoke area. Our contractors have been working 24/7 over the weekend to support Openreach in repairing the cabling.

 

“We are seeking an update from Openreach with regards to when services are likely to be fully restored and will post further information about that when we have it.”

 

More than 4,000 residential properties along with dozens of businesses and hospitals had their internet cut off on Wednesday evening after Hampshire County Council's contract workers accidentally damaged an underground network cable while undertaking the Brighton Hill roundabout piling works.
