A smuggler has been caught by customs officers in Shenzen and is now detained in China after being found with 94 iPhone handsets taped to his body.
China’s state media has reported that the officers became suspicious because the smuggler, who tried to cross into China from Hong Kong on Sunday night, had an ‘odd walking posture’.
The reports added that the man looked as though he was weighed down with something heavy, despite holding only two plastic bags.
He was stopped and searched by the officers when the airport metal detector sounded.
Officers then found 94 unboxed iPhone 6, 6+, and the older iPhone 5 handsets. These handsets are generally cheaper by £80 in Hong Kong when compared to mainland China. Due to the difference in prices between the two areas, it is a highly popular smuggling route. It was believed that the man was smuggling them to turn a profit.
