A court in Milan has convicted the former Italian Prime Minister of paying for sex with an underage girl.
In June, the disgraced leader was handed a one-year jail sentence for the offence and another six-year sentence for abuse of office.
Now, court papers containing the details of his conviction were released. The paper outlines how he had sexual relations with nightclub dancer Karima El Mahroug – AKA Ruby the Heartstealer – in return for cash and gifts.
The court said that the Berlusconi was the director of “bunga bunga” parties where female guest staged lap dances and stripteases to satisfy his needs. The document also said: "It is proved that the defendant had sexual relations with El Mahroug in exchange for considerable sums of money and other items such as jewellery.”
The court says it has been shown “proof beyond a reasonable doubt” that the former Prime Minister was aware that El Mahroug was underage in 2010 when he paid her for sex. In addition, the court said that Berlusconi systematically contaminated the court proceeding for paying the witnesses during the trial.
