Countdown is set to return with a new presenter, the quiz shows co-host Carol Vorderman has said.
She told the Press Association that a single replacement for Richard Whiteley, who died last month, was more likely than a series of guest hosts for the Channel 4 show.
The TV station has yet to make an announcement about the future of the programme, after announcing that the show would take a break over the summer while discussions took place following the death of Whiteley, who hosted the show for 23 years.
The popular presenter, who was the first person to appear on Channel 4 when it began broadcasting in 1982, died at the age of 61 after undergoing heart surgery and suffering with pneumonia.
"We are going to carry on, probably with one presenter," said Vorderman, who claimed any decision would not be made until the autumn.
"It is still all quite sensitive and we are not even trying new people until September," she said.
"It will be very odd for me. Obviously the person I want to do the show with is Richard."
Vorderman added that the Channel 4 switchboard had been "inundated" with calls from viewers asking when Countdown, which is filmed in Leeds, will be screened again.
"By and large, 95 per cent of our viewers have said they do want it to come back," she said.
