Councillors have criticised Powys County Council for giving the impression that Llanidloes Town Council was endorsing a Liverpool-based business rather than a local company.
Last year, letters about local interest in a full fibre broadband scheme were distributed to residents. It claimed it was from county councillors Gareth Morgan, Phyl Davies and Llanidloes Town Council chair Janet Crisp. The town council said that residents had been given a "completely wrong impression" as they were made to appear that they were endorsing a potential contractor.
Llanidloes Mayor Janet Crisp said: "I think this had been badly mishandled by Powys County Council and the reaction of PC-Q has put the Town Council in a difficult position and we are piggy in the middle. It's interesting that Powys County Council is nowhere to be seen. Powys County Council has caused all the aggravation."
Councillor Gareth Morgan said: "I don’t think we should agree to be drawn into it any shape or form. It’s a business issue between these two companies and they compete with each other. I think we should say it's not in our jurisdiction."
The Mayor added: "We were caught very much as piggy in the middle and left to field all the rubbish afterwards."
