The budding romance between Corrie's Violet Wilson and Jason Grimshaw is hit by a bombshell when the Rovers barmaid reveals she is HIV positive.

Builder Jason has been desperately trying to get his girlfriend into bed but it is not until the new year that Violet breaks down and tells him why she has been fending him off.

He will be absolutely devastated by the news about the girl he has fallen in love with and at first will react badly.

But Violet pleads for him not to turn his back on her and he finally comes round.

"Jason will feel absolutely floored when violet tells him the news," a Weatherfield insider told the Daily Star.

"He's fallen in love with her and thinks this is the end of their relationship.

"He reacts badly at first but only out of ignorance and stupidity."

Violet will explain to Jason that he is not at risk if they take the right precautions and says that people live with HIV for years before it turns to Aids.

"Slowly Jason accepts Violet's illness and the couple become stronger," the insider added.
