Connecting Devices with IoT
Internet of Things (IoT) refers to connected devices that work together to achieve a common goal.

It has the potential to play a major role in every type of industry because it increases safety, efficiency and productivity. Thus, it is no wonder why it is predicted that there would be nearly 21 billion connected devices in use worldwide come 2020.
However, there are challenges to using IoT. Let’s take the energy industry for example. Many organisations in the industry sector are operating infrastructure that is ageing and outdated. Also, some information needed to launch an IoT project is simply not widely available. For example, the location and pathways of century old water pipes that are buried underneath the ground may not be readily available. Thus, even if organisations have the needed sensors that can predict maintenance to prevent problems, they will find it challenging to launch their project.
But despite the challenges, it is still believed that IoT will still have an impact across borders and industries. Key players in this arena continuously innovate to ensure that challenges to IoT projects are addressed to enable convergence for consumers and enterprises around the world.
