Connecting Cumbria programme is bringing superfast and highly reliable broadband services to approximately 94per cent of properties in Cumbria in partnership with commercial providers. The scheme provides residents and businesses access to at least 30Mbps download speed.
Cumbria County Council is now encouraging residents to sign up for the service, which is expected to benefit the economy, improve local services and increase opportunities in the area. To upgrade to superfast broadband, interested parties need to contact their service provider or reach out to the Connecting Cumbria programme team directly.
Take-up of the service triggers payback of funding to the council. To date, approximately £2.5million has been reinvested to improve broadband services in various locations with an emphasis on rural and low-speed areas.
Councillor David Southward, the county council’s Cabinet Member for Economic Development, said: “The value of fast broadband connections to businesses and homes in Cumbria cannot be overstated.
"Tourism, the food retail industry, and many other small businesses need quick and reliable connections so that instead of having to search endlessly for customers, the customers find them.
"Connecting Cumbria has helped thousands of local people and businesses benefit from improved broadband speeds, and now we want to reach even more people and continue building a reliable and efficient network that benefits our local economy and helps people to stay connected.”
