Eastbourne digital transformation is now within reach following a £26million investment from CityFibre. Works are now underway to build a full-fiber network to bring fast and reliable internet connection to almost every home and business in the town.
CityFibre confirms that the scheme is part of its nationwide plan to replace the country's ageing copper-based networks with gigabit-capable full fibre connectivity. Across the UK, the firm has partnered with Vodafone to deliver next generation broadband services. They are expecting other firms, including TalkTalk, to join the network soon.
Mr Adrian Smith, the appointed manager for CityFibre's Eastbourne project, said: “It’s really exciting to be part of CityFibre’s gigabit revolution – CityFibre is doing everything it can to transform towns and cities across the country. Our digital infrastructure plays a crucial role in growing and protecting local economies, even more so during these unprecedented times when connectivity has proven vital to residents, businesses and public services alike.”
David Roberts, the managing director of Lanes-i, the local contractor that delivers the construction programme on CityFibre's behalf, said: “We are pleased to be working on this contract for CityFibre in Eastbourne.
“It’s great to be part of an enterprise that transforms communities’ digital experiences, by giving them more reliable, futureproof broadband.”
Eastbourne council leader David Tutt said, “The Covid-19 pandemic has put the importance of a high-speed digital infrastructure in sharp focus.”
“It is integral to the vibrancy and growth of local economies and I welcome the rollout of this technology in the town.”
