Cisco plans to expand IoT with Jasper Technologies.
14:55 26 May 2017
Last year, Cisco acquired Jasper Technologies for $1.4billion with the goal to make Internet of Things (IoT) simple and scalable. At the time of acquisition, Jasper had over 3,500 enterprises. Today, that number has grown to 9,000 while the number of devices it manages has increased from 17million to more than 40million.
Cisco-Jasper offers a platform that connects things as well as collects and analyses data to provide scalable solutions to a range of problems being encountered across many industries such as logistics and transportation, automotive, energy, healthcare, manufacturing, retail, homes and buildings, payment solutions, smart cities, and agriculture. It is the firm’s goal to help its clients increase revenue, improve productivity, expand product offerings, and lower operational markets.
Cisco supports NB-IoT (Narrow-band IoT) to meet the increasing demands for low-cost, low-power IoT devices. The firm believes that “NB-IoT is expected to drive growth of IoT at a massive scale, increasing the number of connected devices more than 3 billion by 2023.”
NB-IoT protocol is ideal for smart cities, smart meters, smart parking, asset tracking, building automation, and even remote agriculture. Industry experts estimate that the market size for this solution will grow to $8.22 billion in three years.
