Chris Evans flew in by helicopter to catch a glimpse of the world-famous Dunlop Bridge that he has recently bought for £250. The avid car enthusiast snapped the bridge up at a charity auction and called it as ‘one of the greatest bargains of all time’.
The bridge, which has been dismantled from the Donnington Park Circuit in Leicestershire where it stood for 30 years, was auctioned by Bonhams during the recent Goodwood Revival race meeting in Surrey.
The BBC Radio 2 DJ, however, was taken aback when he saw the bridge in actual and realized just how big it was. “Sh*t it’s massive,” he was said to have exclaimed, after laying eyes on the 230-feet bridge.
“It’s a lot bigger than I thought. I didn’t realise how chunky it was. I can’t believe how big it is,” he exclaimed as reported by the Mail Online.
He then spent half an hour sitting on one part of the large bridge, which is made up of a total of 18 sections. He couldn’t seem to get over the size of the bridge and also added: “It’s huge isn’t it? It’s the kind of thing you have on a farm to hold livestock in.”
After telling his radio talk show fans how he acquired the bridge, he joked about erecting in over the top of his neighbour’s house in Berkshire.
More recently, however, he vowed to have the bridge rebuilt in Leicestershire so race fans can continue enjoying it.
