65-year-old French scientist Christian Poincheval has invented pills that will make people’s flatulence smell like sweets or flowers. He said he got the idea 'after a heavy meal with friends'.
He previously sold pills to alter 'silent but deadly' bodily expulsions to reconfigure them with the more pleasing scent of rose or violet. However, he released a new chocolate version just in time for Christmas.
'The Father Christmas fart pill that gives your farts the scent of chocolate' retails at €9.99 for a jar of 60 and offers benefits including 'the reduction of gas and bloating'.
'It’s a nice present for the festive season,' he told newspaper Ouest France.
The pills are available on his website pilulepet.com, which translates to “fart-pill.”
In a statement in his website, he explained where he got the idea: 'We were at the table with friends and after a hearty meal, our farts were so smelly we nearly suffocated.’
'The winds were not very pleasant for our fellow diners. Something had to be done.'
'I have all sorts of customers,' he said. 'Some buy them because they have problems with flatulence and some buy them as a joke to send to their friends. Christmas always see a surge in sales.'
