Vale Council has confirmed that it is in the process of installing new CCTV cameras on Penarth Esplanade, Kings Square in Barry and Cowbridge. The local authority is also upgrading 77 static cameras in Barry, Penarth and Llantwit Major. The new service will be provided in collaboration with Cardiff Council and South Wales Police.
Cllr Margaret Wilkinson, Vale of Glamorgan Council cabinet member for public sector housing and tenant engagement, said: "An effective CCTV network helps to maintain the safety of our residents.
"It can identify criminals and provides a significant deterrent, reducing the number of offences committed.
"The new and improved system will enable the council and police to implement real time solutions to local problems, cut response times and ensure that the Vale of Glamorgan continues to be a safe place to live."
