CCTV Upgrade for Keynsham?
£88,000 investment to improve CCTV coverage in Keynsham being considered.
18:51 21 February 2018
Bath and North East Somerset Council has called on Councillor Charles Gerrish (cabinet member for finance and efficiency) and Councillor Mark Shelford (cabinet member fort transport and environment) to approve a project that aims to improve the CCTV system in Keynsham. If given the go signal, the old microwave link will be replaced and new additional cameras will be installed.
Existing cameras in the Keyhsham area are currently being monitored from the council’s control room by a microwave link. However, the said link has become unreliable and thus has to be replaced with a more resilient wireless network. The council is also planning to install additional cameras at Hicks Gate roundabout, railway bridge near the Keynsham Station and the park in Keynsham.
Councillor Gerrish said: “I have been asked to consider this investment which would enhance the CCTV in the town centre where there has been a significant increase in anti-social behaviour and growing public concern about it. The scheme would also, provide more flexibility and is more reliable.”
The project requires £88,000 funding, which would come from the Cadbury site Section 106 funding agreement. A decision about the project is expected after 21st February.
