CCTV Upgrade for Derby

Derby local council invests in extra CCTVs and improved lighting as part of a scheme to make the streets safer for women and girls.

Derby local council has launched a scheme that aims to make its streets safer for women and girls. Councillors have approved plans to spend £550,000 for the installation of new CCTV cameras and improved lighting in parts of Derby. 

 

Over the next few weeks, additional CCTV cameras will be installed in the city centre, including in the areas around school, college and university campuses as well as Chaddesden and Racecourse parks. The work will also include the installation of better lighting on footpaths in Racecourse Park and on the cycle route between Brackens lane and Boulton Lane in Alvaston. 

 

Councillor Matthew Eyre, city council cabinet member for place and community development, said: "CCTV is a proven method to prevent and protect.

 

"By upgrading the control room, we will be able to better share information with our colleagues at Derbyshire Police to ensure response resources are deployed where and when needed."

 

The Safe Derby Campaign, which led by Derby City Council, was launched in partnership with community sector partners, including local specialist child exploitation charity Safe and Sound, Debry County Community Trust and Derby Community Action.
