CCTV Trial for Telford Taxis
CCTV cameras to be installed in Telford and Wrekin taxis in a scheme that aims to make both passengers and drivers feel safer.

The local council is launching a trial scheme that will see taxis across Telford and Wrekin fitted with CCTV cameras in a bid to deter crime and anti-social behavior. 20 taxis will be participating in the trial and if proven effective in keeping drivers and passengers feel safer, all taxis in Telford and Wrekin will be required to follow suit.
To protect privacy and security, the local authority confirmed that the cameras are not designed to record sound except in an emergency.
The scheme, which was launched in partnership with West Mercia Police, is funded by the police and crime commissioner. The footage captured will only be assessed if a complaint is made or if it is requested by the driver or a passenger.
Richard Overton, deputy leader of the Labour-run council, said: "From the driver's point of view, having CCTV in their vehicle may make them feel less vulnerable to attacks or fare dodging."
