CCTV Go-ahead for East Lindsey
East Lindsey’s CCTV to be finally installed after more than 21 months of delay.

State-of-the-art digital cameras were supposed to have been installed in seven market towns, namely Alford, Chapel St Leonards, Horncastle, Ingoldmells, Louth, Skegness and Mablethorpe/Sutton on Sea in March 2016. The roll out has been delayed because BT has insisted they were only prepared to talk to the initial contractors, leading East Lindsey district Councillor Fiona Martin has claimed.
Councillor Martin has confirmed that an ELDC Scrutiny Committee had been assured that the needed work has been completed and that the installation of cameras will start this month.
However, the 21-month delay is causing concerns over guarantees. Councillors worry that these might expire even before the cameras are used.
Meanwhile, Horncastle town councillor Angela Birchall said that the seven towns should not be forced to pay any outstanding CCTV bills. She also stressed the importance of checking the guarantees because there were no assurances the cameras would work, a potential problem that can lead to expensive repairs.
According to ELDC, BT charges £56,000-a-year for the analogue system, which covers 97 cameras in the seven towns.
